This is the 2012 equivalent of showing vacation slides to friends, but I took a video of my train ride up the Swiss Alps (from Lauterbrunnen to Klein-Scheidegg - the names! THE NAMES) this weekend. I set it to a Sufjan Stevens song, to make the 1:21 minutes go down easier*.

*although the clanking beneath the music is the sound of the train.

Ferns - Hey OK (Official Music Video) (by FernFren)

(via liy)

This is the trailer for a Melbourne production of The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet happening from next Wednesday the 29th to March 11th at fortyfivedownstairs. I’m an assistant director on the show and I feel so, so lucky to be involved (I stage managed the 2010 production of this particular show) not only because Shakespeare could write, dudes! - but also because of the amazing and wonderful people involved in the show, not least the wonderful director Zoey and the gorgeous and talented actors you can see in the video above. I teared up watching this today?! (granted, it’s an emotional time for me) But seriously, I’m so proud of this show and so proud to be a part of it. Please come down and watch it if you’re in Melbourne, it’s going to be so spectacular!

After I yelled out “WHAT IS THIS FROM JERKFACES” upon first seeing this .gif triad, I Googled “adrien brody gael garcia bernal” (with apologies to “andre 3000”) and found the video. Something about Brody’s shit-eating grin and apparent smugness at his joke of a goatee (What is it? Why are there so many separate elements?) really upsets me. Gael being in this also upsets me, but then his face does the opposite.

Choice lyrics from this tough broad:

  • You don’t love me, big fucking deal
  • I send my best, regards from hell
  • I never sent for love, I never had a heart to mend, because before the start began, I always saw the end

Ava by Coeur de Pirate

Okay, so I started trying to learn French a couple months ago, and I’m only really halfway through one unit on Rosetta Stone, so I know colours and how to count to twelve (barely) but the other day I thought I’d rewatch that adorable Capucine video from some years back and it all sounded like gibberish to me still and gave me a headache. This has nothing to do with this song, which is great and is kind of upbeat but also really sad and a bit dark?? Take a look at the lyrics translationOh, Ava, you read those words over and over again / From three-sentence-long letters which tear your age off you / You know he’s a coward / But Ava, he just thinks you’re a fool When he kisses you, you feel like living again / But he’s really just renting his bed. AMAZING.

The third in an indeterminate series of prime sassy musical ladies I’ve been listening to lately.

Velvet Elvis by Alex Winston

Here’s another prime sassy lady. I have no real idea what this song is about but it is just so dang catchy. But When I feel your velvet, I can’t help it/Hold your frame, whisper your name is a string of euphemisms, right? That’s how I’m reading it. I loved Alex Winston when I first heard her song Sister Wife, which is a great song if you should ever be conscripted into a polygamous commune. Keep it in your back pocket!

Asthma Attack by CockNBullKid

CockNBullKid is one of the many sassy ladies occupying prime positions in my iTunes of late. I love this song mostly for the start: London I love you but you’re bringing me down/ in that special way only you know how. Also, amazing fairy lights crown at 2:28, if you’re into that sort of thing.
